The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented a smart digital platform, “Data Drive – Clear Guide,” that is committed to examining and analyzing historical and real-time traffic on roads in the emirate for the last five years, alongside real-time traffic information.
This allows authorities with responsibility to examine various traffic factors, immediately determine road conditions, examine road velocities, determine regular traffic patterns, determine areas of smooth traffic, congestion areas, traffic congestion, and other traffic factors.
This step forms part of RTA’s efforts to harness artificial intelligence to alleviate congestion in Dubai and deliver best-in-class services that advance the emirate’s digital transformation and competitiveness, making Dubai the world’s smartest city and a global destination for innovation and sustainability.
RTA continues to make steady progress in expanding the deployment of these technologies ranging from intelligent data analytics and traffic management to autonomous mobility through an integrated ecosystem underpinned by future-ready technologies.
The “Data Drive – Clear Guide” portal will offer real-time messages and alerts on traffic movement on the emirate’s roads., thereby facilitating decision-making in managing day-to-day variations.
The portal also provides sophisticated analytical tools for evaluating traffic performance on various time horizons—or on a particular day and week—and comparing outcomes with five years of historical data.
This allows for analysis of traffic conditions and comparison of performance between those intervals, together with the identification of patterns of regular congestion or bottlenecks and instantaneous or unusual loss of speed, thus enhancing response times and the effectiveness of solution development.
The “Data Drive – Clear Guide” system is also a significant digital leap forward in monitoring and analysing traffic on the emirate’s road network.
At each step, it is based on historical and current data from top-tier international specialist companies that provide massive amounts of traffic data, which are then analyzed using smart tools to provide an accurate, real-time snapshot of traffic.
Previously, operations relied on retrieving data manually from other sources, for example, from consultants or field teams, or on manually drawn reports based on traffic factors, resulting in delays in making decisions and conducting analysis. Today, data that took weeks to gather and analyze can be retrieved in real-time within minutes using the Data Drive – Clear Guide platform.
The “Data Drive – Clear Guide” platform, committed to collecting and analyzing traffic data on the emirate’s road network, will also facilitate real-time observation of the performance of traffic diversions and events. This will allow concerned RTA teams to intervene promptly, take necessary action, and reduce ensuing delays.
The platform also enables report generation to be automated, with results to be evaluated and analyzed both before and after road works, thus assisting in measuring project efficiency and aiding efficient decision-making from large, dependable, and up-to-date datasets.
It should be mentioned that the new platform shows real-time road conditions through an interactive map. The geographic location or street to be analyzed may be designated on the basis of indicators that serve to recognize the road to be examined, i.e., average speed, traffic density, and travel time.
