Dubai’s 1270 EV Charging Points Enhance its Leadership in Sustainable Mobility

Dubai’s 1270 EV charging points enhance its leadership in sustainable mobility

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced that Dubai possesses today a network of more than 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the emirate.

This consists of charging stations offered by DEWA along with its partners from the public and private sectors.

Al Tayer confirmed that DEWA remains at the forefront of promoting green mobility and assisting Dubai in achieving its vision to become an environmentally friendly transport system, in accordance with national initiatives to raise the proportion of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50% of total vehicles on UAE roads by 2050.

“In accordance with the vision of the visionary leadership to position Dubai as an international model for smart urban development through the promotion of green mobility, we initiated the EV Green Charger program in 2014, the Middle East’s first public charging infrastructure network for electric vehicles.”

We continue this pioneering approach by providing innovative digital services for EV charging and encouraging private sector investment in Dubai’s green mobility infrastructure through the launch of a comprehensive licensing system for the development and operation of EV charging infrastructure across the emirate.

This comes particularly because the volume of EVs in Dubai hit more than 40,600 towards the close of the first half of 2025. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050,” added Al Tayer.

A Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Point Operators

The Dubai Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Infrastructure and Independent Charge Point Operator Licensing, prepared by DEWA, caters to existing and future needs so Dubai continues to be in the lead among green mobility innovation.

The framework consists of two tracks since Dubai is experiencing both direct development of public charging facilities by DEWA and its subsidiaries, and infrastructure building by independently licensed charging point operators by DEWA.

Diversifying the Network of EV Charging Stations

DEWA’s EV Green Charger network comprises ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. To further diversify this infrastructure, DEWA entered into a partnership agreement with Parkin to deploy charging stations in prime locations operated by Parkin, increasing customer convenience.

Both registered and unregistered customers are able to use EV charging under the guest mode feature. Customers can also find stations through DEWA’s smart app, official website and 14 other online platforms.

DEWA also launched the ‘Dubai EV Community Hub’ website (http://www.dubaievhub.ae) to encourage EV adoption and act as a one-stop source of information on the local EV ecosystem.
