Dubai Future Foundation and Amazon UAE made a joint announcement of introducing an innovative initiative that will allow people to engage in the gig economy by delivering Amazon packages on foot to its customers. This follows the Amazon signing a deal to be part of the Dubai Future Foundation’s Sandbox Dubai program, namely in the Gig Economy segment, approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation. The Sandbox targets building the legislational landscape in favor of future and forward-looking economic paradigms.
The Amazon UAE pilot program offers opportunities to individuals and small entrepreneurs to gain extra and flexible earnings through on-foot delivery services, particularly in highly populated areas in Dubai. It also maximizes idle working hours, as well as allows businesses to scale seamlessly. The program aligns with Dubai’s vision of facilitating pioneering practices.
Furthermore, the model is expected to reduce the reliance on delivery vehicles, helping to ease traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions, aligning with Dubai’s sustainability goals.
